GM CEO Dan Akerson's 1958 Chevrolet Corvette sells at Barrett ...

Vehicle Description:

The Corvette first debuted in 1953 at GM's Motorama display at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. It began America's love affair with the iconic sports car. In 1958, for the second consecutive year, a Corvette won both the GT-class at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the SCCA B-Production class National Championship. The base price in 1958 for the Chevy Corvette Convertible was $3,591. One lucky bidder will have the opportunity to own this 1958 Regal Turquoise Chevy Corvette owned by General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson. The Corvette received several visual and equipment changes for the 1958 model, including a longer front end, a switch to quad headlights with high and low beams, bumper exiting exhaust tips, a new steering wheel and a completely new dashboard with all the gauges mounted in front of the driver. Hood louvers and twin truck spears were exclusive to the 1958 model. The addition of seat belts as standard equipment was also new this year. Prior to this, seat belts were a dealer-installed option. This vehicle also features a 245hp, 4.6 Liter V8 engine. Chevy manufactured 9,168 units of 1958 models and only 510, or just over 5 percent, were painted the Regal Turquoise hue. One hundred percent of the winning bid will be donated by Akerson to Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization building simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need. **ALL PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY** **WILL BE SOLD AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30PM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2013** **TITLE IN TRANSIT**
