>>> israel and hamas appears to be holding with both sides declaring victory, although tensions are high and the level of rhetoric coming from both sides of the border. we have two reports, beginning with our chief foreign correspondent, richard engel , good evening.
>> reporter: good evening, hamas is feeling extraordinarily confident, but doesn't appear tonight to want to break the cease-fire. but tonight, hamas made it very clear on what it signed with israel is just a truce, not peace. at the rally in gaza , to celebrate the cease-fire, hamas didn't release any white doves today. instead, they told people that the rockets on tel aviv forced israel to make a deal, and vowed that more would fly. hamas kept its promise and sent netanyahu into a bunker, this man said, followed by cheers of "onward hamas ." hamas is declaring today a national holiday , calling it a day of victory. and it is clear that hamas only sees the truce as the most temporary of solutions and that its fight with israel will certainly continue. the young people here see this like a break between boxing rounds. the resistance won by following rockets on tel aviv and israel , they say they won't stop until they have a state. but where did hamas suddenly get the rockets they are so proud of? iran hinted they supplied the technology, and in a rare admission, they thanked iran for supplying weapons and financing. for most people in gaza , today was their first time to venture out after a week of israeli air strikes . to sweep up all the debris, take money from bank machines just refilled this morning. and for thousands living in shelters, a chance to go home. but not yet for this man, his apartment remains destroyed. hit by an israeli rocket that still sits on the living room floor. fired exactly three minutes before the cease-fire came into effect. the ambulance driver wonders why him? why his house was the last strike in gaza this conflict, which many here think sooner or later will start again. richard engel , nbc news, gaza .
