?I wish I?d listen to my own advice sometimes. If you?re going to all the trouble of building a tribe, build it on a platform you control? Ed Dale
Nearly two years ago now (man how time flies, soon it will be Xmas! But that is a rant for later in the week) I ran a workshop in Agnes Water. The topic..
Social Media, and in particular how to use Facebook for your business.
Now if you were there that day you know exactly what I am going to say next.
I went to great pains before we kicked off to warn all of those attending about the dangers of relying on a online marketing platform that you don?t own. ?Why would I do that?
Because I wanted to ram home a very important point which was all to do with my Youtube account. Youtube quite literally pulled the rug out from under me and deleted my account. Hundreds of hours of uploading video gone in the blink of an eye, all for no apparent reason! So what was my warning?
I started the workshop with this sentence?
Free is fantastic, but paid is imperative.
Facebook Business Pages a free for now I told them, don?t be surprised if that changes in the future. And with the Paid to Promote model that everyone is currently up in arms about, I was pretty close to the mark. So what does this mean to your online marketing?
You must (I repeat) MUST start building your own online platform that you own. A piece of real estate that can?t be taken from you at the whim of a greedy landlord such as Facebook or Youtube.
Don?t worry if you got caught with your pants down on this one. Even Ed Dale did to a certain degree, hence his comment at the start of this post.
So where to next? What is the answer Beanie.
Now for a lot of you this is going to hurt, after all many of you said to me?
Why should I pay for a website when I can set up a Facebook Business Page for free?
That answer should now be obvious.
You don?t own it and therefore have very little control over it.
Facebook is still a great platform, but it should only be part of your social marketing strategies. You should look at it as just a platform to feed traffic back to your website, just like you should do with all of your Social Media profiles. Hence the title?
Arse about Face.
Your own website is now more imperative to the success of your marketing than ever before. Making the decision to start taking your online marketing seriously by setting up your own self hosted website is just part of the puzzle. The next big question is?
Who should you hire to build this website for you? You see there are many designers out there that may be wonderful at making your website look pretty (not that there is anything wrong with that) but they have no idea how to set your website up to get people to actually call you or purchase your products. So how can you sort the designers from the marketers?
To help you out I have created a free audio titled?
Five questions you must ask to get your website built properly, for the best possible price.
You can listen to the audio via this link right here => Free Audio Report.
There is no catch, no email address required, zip, zilch, nothing! Just listen to the report and be sure to ask the five questions before you spend a cent.
Just before I head off for a surf, I would like to know what your experience has been with your Facebook Business Page.
Do you feel that your posts are no longer being seen by your audience like they used to?
